The Boerne Books & Arts Festival is coming back to our little town on Oct. 5 from 10 AM – 5 PM at the Main Plaza. I attended the first one last year and was impressed by the various book dealers, university presses, and authors in attendance. Many of the books like The Cedar Choppers by Ken Roberts, published by Texas A&M University Press, were new releases and the authors were onsite as panelists.
I’m particularly looking forward to the Tall Texans Author Panel featuring Joe Nick Patoski, Becky Crouch Patterson, and John Phillip Santos from 2:30 to 3:15 in the author panel tent as well as the discussion of the new book, Nerves of Steel, by Capt. Tammie Jo Shults at 3:30.
For those looking for a more intimate author experience, try the evening cocktail reception on Friday, Oct. 4 with Stephen Harrigan as he releases his new history of Texas, Big Wonderful Thing. That reception is at Tusculum Brewing Co. (owned by some wonderful people I know well) and the admission price includes a copy of the new book. More information on the cocktail reception can be found here.
If you’ve never been to Boerne, TX I encourage you to use this as the excuse you’ve been waiting for. And bring a tote bag. If my experience last year is any indication, you’ll need it. I’ll be there…come find me!
