Improving Diversity

Readers, listeners, and friends,

This week I received a note from an editor of a respected independent publisher of poetry, noting the lack of diversity of gender and people of color on the podcast. It’s been on my mind for a while and I think you’ll see improved diversity of gender soon. Still, the point was well made and appreciated. I welcome those who challenge my thinking. It’s one of the principles that led me to start the blog and the podcast.

So, consider this my public pledge to do better.

If you’d like to read more about my thoughts on the matter you can read an essay I wrote about it for The Essence of Water.

As always, thanks for reading and for listening.

  1. Hey Matt – just a thought – but you know quite a few publishers and librarians at this point (many of whom are, I’m sure, subscribers to the site). I’d be interested in tapping their thoughts about some people of color who would make good podcast candidates – and selfishly, whose work would be worth adding to my reading list. How about an open call to your readers for ideas?

    1. It’s a great idea Peter. So…consider that an open invitation of the same type I offer all the podcast guests. Who should I be reading and who do you thin would make a great guest?
